Nomad Eyes has many facets, features, functions. It is also here-and-now and very simple, easy, and for now, it is free and with volunteer and
sponsor support it can stay that way for the people who need it most. You, us, everybody.
Consider these three images:
People and also automated systems (ours, others) send in alerts to the Nomad Eyes server including things seen, things noticed, like
the above. Our data mining looks for stuff like this, all over the web, in YouTube, Facebook, blogs, everywhere. And in the very simplest
operating shell, it looks for very basic associations and links to potential dangerous situations-in-the-making. Not only about deranged killers.
If Nomad Eyes finds something that the algorithm thinks is significant, that will be shared with subscribing institutions, communities, individuals
who probably would like very much to know that there might be a threat in the making or that there is one happening.
Like the community of Jokola in rural Finland, or the student community of Virginia Tech, or lots of places.
Not Big Brother, not Big Scare, not infringement on privacy or personal freedoms, no Patriot Act here. Just a Situation Awareness Communication System,
something like putting some Common Sense into the web and particularly into the stream of media, blogs, videos, and
other content that is all out there, just too much for people to assimilate and notice in time.
And for the ordinary individual, you out there, it is free. All you need to do is sign up with your email address and a cell phone number if you've got one.
You can send things to Nomad Eyes, or just be on the list to be informed if the "brains in a vat" think there is something weird going on out there.
In most cases, where there is a bad fire, there was usually some smoke before, but nobody noticed or paid attention.
